| Course Description: |
This is a one semester 7th & 8th grade to introduce students to the use of technology as a creative tool. Students will gain a working knowledge of computers, as well as acquire a basic knowledge of graphic design to create attractive designs and layouts, multimedia presentations and computerized publications. Students will be introduced to various software programs in graphics, audio, video, multimedia, desktop publishing, and web page software.

| Course Goals: |
- To further develop student knowledge and skills related to using computers.
- To demonstrate a basic understanding of design and layout theory.
- To develop vocabulary specific to graphic design, desktop publishing, presentations, and other forms of multimedia.
- To import clipart, graphics, and sound into their multimedia projects from a variety of sources.
- To import and export text and graphics from other software programs.
- To demonstrate basic skills in multimedia software.
- To develop presentation skills by delivering multimedia presentations.
- To use different peripherals to integrate material from other sources into their multimedia projects.
- To acquire basic techniques to manipulate photo placement, color correction, and retouching.
- To assist faculty in designing computerized publications and presentations.
- To explain issues relating to the invasion of privacy, copyright, plagiarism, and the ethical use of information.
- To practice and model acceptable security, legal, and ethical issues as outlined in the Clark County School District’s Acceptable Use Policy.
- To practice and demonstrate safe use of the Internet.
- To explore career opportunities in the area of multimedia.

| Homework Expectations: |
There will be daily in-class assignments which will directly relate to the current lesson. Students will be asked to collect photographs from home for use in their multimedia projects. 20min./evening (100 minutes/week) keyboarding is required. |

- Homework Minimum Requirements: 20 minutes/evening for a total of 100 minutes/week
- Practice cards are collected every Monday
- If student doesn’t turn in a practice card, they fill out a HAM (Homework Assignment Missing).
- Students can tear up their HAM when they turn in the missed assignment (unless three HAMs are collected).
- HAMs are sent home to parents when Mrs. Brinker has collected 3 (3 missed assignments).
- Students can turn in the work from the 3 missed assignments if the note is signed and returned.

Students are graded according to the following criteria:
30%=Tests/Quizzes
20%=HW/Practice Cards
50%=Classwork
**Qrtr 1+Qrtr 2=90%--Sem. Exam = 10%
